I consider myself really lucky and privileged for having visited Sri Lanka. The best gift a parent can offer their child is the gift of Travel. When we travel, we not only develop as better humans but we imbibe many
new cultures, languages and cuisines. The Young Ambassador Program (YAP) is a cultural exchange at its Best!
After having travelled by YAP, every other holiday seems boring and dull. The amount of warmth and affection extended by the Sri Lankan 41er was exceptional, they made us enjoy travelling and to love their beautiful island.
We started with Colombo, then headed for Kandy, Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya, Negombo and finally Galle. To give you a brief summary of what we experienced there in a week. I would like to begin with the sheer beauty of Sri Lanka. The lush green landscapes, serenity of clear blue waters, spotlessly clean beaches and glorious past of the temples.
A week was too short, we wished it was two, as Sri Lanka is a dream, to be treasured and cherished for ever. I say this because everyone we met, was so warm and friendly that we instantly became comfortable with them. The conversations we had, the experiences we exchanged, places we visited, the things we did and the various types of food we ate. Their hospitality was superb!
The hosts were amazing, living with them was most enjoyable. Some of the Old Tablers, were kind enough to invite their children back home from the university, during our visit, to keep us company. They were of our age group. This made our trip even more enjoyable. We, in turn also invited them to India and encouraged them to take the YAP tours so that they could also experience India. We had the good fortune to imbibe many sights, like MACKWOODS tea estate, watched and fed elephants at the Elephant orphanage in Pinna Wala, treked in Sigiriya (lion’s rock). Participated in the native dances in Kandy and water sports in Negombo. While concluding, I’d like to thank each and everyone who made this trip a grand success. Specially for giving us such a wonderful time. The beautiful memories and the new friends we made and the experiences we had.
We came back enlightened, more wiser, more travelled and more inspired!
